If you want a bit of normalcy without putting your guests at risk, consider limiting your guest list and including a virtual aspect of the shower. When deciding who should be there in person, take a look at your state’s regulations on how many people can gather at one time and plan accordingly. Those in attendance should be people who speak to the mommy-to-be regularly, like her mom, sisters, and in-laws. Then, you can send out a Zoom, Google Meet, or Skype link for those guests who will be attending virtually. 

Play COVID-friendly games 

You would be surprised by the endless options for COVID baby shower game ideas. One game idea is “Name That Tune,” where you play a series of nursery rhymes for the guests and have them guess which one it is. Another game could be “Guess That Baby,” where you have guests email their baby photos to the host ahead of time and everyone can try and figure out who’s who while they’re at the celebration. Tell virtual attendees to type their answers in the chat. Those who are in-person can write their guesses on a piece of paper. Or everyone can submit their answers on a platform like PollEv, Kahoot, or Slido. These baby shower games are all contactless and COVID-friendly. 

Give out COVID-friendly favors 

With the pandemic, you want to limit the amount of physical contact you have with people, so this means making COVID-friendly baby shower favors. Traditional baby shower favors such as food, candy, and cookies aren’t the best choice unless they’re individually wrapped and packaged. Consider giving out soap, monogrammed hand sanitizers, or masks instead. You can mail favors to those who attended virtually.  

Make smart serving decisions 

For those attending in-person, you want to make them feel as safe as possible, so smart serving decisions are essential. Some food ideas for baby showers during COVID are pre-packaged foods, individual apps, individual cupcakes, or a pre-cut cake. Be sure to steer clear of any type of buffet options. You should also make sure the utensils are individually packaged to prevent cross-contamination.

While talking with Lucy over Zoom, Linda was thankful for customers who ordered gift certificates to support The Pink Daisy when the shop was shut down in the spring. Now, The Pink Daisy is selling masks, offering discounts on clothes, and enforcing new rules for shopping in-store. Everyone who wants to shop in person is required to wear a mask; however, if you forget one, there are free masks available inside. There’s also hand sanitizer in the store, and when people try on clothes, they’re not placed back on the sales floor until they’ve sat for a couple of days.

Limit the Guest List  

In our daily lives, we have to limit who we see and when we see them. This is no different when it comes to planning a bridal shower. Composing a limited guest list will help create an atmosphere that is more intimate and less stressful. The more people involved, the more that can go wrong. And most states have issued regulations on how many people can gather at one time. 

With these regulations in mind, you should only invite people who the bride speaks to regularly—not the great aunt she hasn’t seen in years. Remember to communicate and be honest with the guests. If you can’t invite someone, let them know it’s not personal but that you’re doing it for the safety of everyone involved.  

Go Virtual 

The safest and most comfortable option is a virtual bridal shower. Hosting an online shower will give the bride the best of both worlds. She can celebrate with all of her closest friends and family without putting their health and safety at risk.  

We have all become a bit more accustomed to the digital world during these past few months, so a virtual bridal shower doesn’t seem so scary. First, choose a platform to host the celebration, like Zoom, Google Meet, or Skype. Next, make sure you know how many people can be live at once (and for how long). Then comes the fun—the games!  

Even though everyone is not physically together, there are ways to incorporate traditional bridal shower games. You can use sites like Kahoot, Jackbox.tv, or Google Forms to create an interactive celebration. Games such as “Bride vs. Groom Trivia,” “He Said, She Said,” and “Mad Libs” are all within reach. The best part? A virtual shower has the benefit of allowing people from out of town to attend.  

Have it Outdoors  

If you still want to have a physical party, experts have said that outdoor parties are the way to go. When you are outside, it is easier to maintain social distancing. And do you know what else is great about an outdoor celebration? You won’t need as many decorations because the scenery is already enough. 

Outdoor bridal shower venue options include renting a tent at a park, renting out a restaurant patio, or having it in a friend or family member’s backyard. Don’t forget to book a tentative rain date for the event in case of inclement weather. For your party favors, masks and hand sanitizer are a no-brainer.   

Offer Drive-By

If the bride is anxious about putting lives at risk but still wants to see familiar faces, you could do a drive-by. If your table is big enough, set seats 6ft. apart from each other. If your table is on the smaller side, consider leaving at least one chair in between guests who don’t live together. We will be glad to to deliver your wrapped gifts so you do not have to wait. We will also be happy to set up an appointment for you before or after closing. Choose a theme or style.

When deciding to host any party, the first step should be determining a theme. Themes set the tone and help you when you’re writing a shopping list and figuring out a color scheme. Thanksgiving kicks off the holiday season. It’s a time to relax with loved ones, gather together around the dinner table together, and be grateful. Linda sees Thanksgiving as one of the more casual holidays with lots of opportunities to be playful, fun, and festive with your decorative choices.

“There will probably be children there,” she pointed out, “Everyone really just wants to eat and watch football.”

Keep this in mind when planning your Thanksgiving: think fun and family oriented. Turkey butter sculptures, DIY decorations, and low-mess crafts that will engage children in the festivities but also keep them occupied and out from under your feet.

Accessorize Your Table

Linda suggests going to your local craft store and picking up some pumpkins, vines, gourds, or little pilgrim dolls, whatever speaks to you, and arranging them in the middle of the table. 

“This is also more cost effective because after the holiday they can be stored away for next year,” sh

e adds, “Versus fresh gourds and vines that spoil.”

This is a great way to get children involved too. There’s not much room for error and they’ll feel accomplished after helping out with the most central decoration. 

“You can do a basket, like a cornucopia, that symbolizes the harvest” Linda said, “Fill it with apples and fruit, tiny pumpkins, whatever you feel like.”

Incorporate Fall Colors

Playing with colors that invoke feelings of fall will bring life to your Thanksgiving table setting. 

“Rust, sage, burgundy, gold,” Linda said, “Colors from the changing leaves all really emphasize the fall theme.”

Pair these colors with simple gold and white china or keep the centerpieces simple and use a more rustic china set that already incorporates the fall colors.
